Community Advocate

About Rande S. Atcherson

Professional Background

Rande S. Atcherson is a Prince George’s County native with over 20 years of experience in strategic marketing, communications, project management, brand development, and change management. He currently serves as Senior Manager of Enterprise Change Management for a national nonprofit organization, where he leads communication and training programs for system implementations and business process improvement initiatives. In this role, he drives technology adoption and analyzes shifts in employee and client behavior to improve organizational performance. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Towson University.

Founder, Speak for a Cause

In 2016, Rande founded Speak for a Cause, LLC, an agency dedicated to supporting local nonprofits, community leaders, and minority-owned businesses. Through his firm, he partners with organizations to strengthen their missions through strategic marketing, brand development, event curation, and community engagement—helping them expand their reach and deepen their impact.

Founder, LoveMyLargo Initiative

Rande is also the founder of the LovemyLargo initiative, a community-driven movement focused on economic activation, placemaking, and sustainability in Downtown Largo. Through flagship programs like the LovemyLargo Farmers Market and the Downtown Largo Festival, he has created community hubs that connect residents to fresh, locally sourced food, small businesses, and educational resources.

His work directly addresses food insecurity by increasing access to healthy, affordable food options while supporting local farmers and food entrepreneurs. By integrating nutrition education, urban gardening, and community-based programming, Rande is helping to build a more resilient, self-sustaining local food ecosystem.

Awards & Recognition

In 2018, Rande was recognized as one of Prince George’s County’s Top Forty Under 40 for his contributions to the business and civic community.

Leadership & Community Impact

Rande’s commitment to service extends to his role as President of the Board of Directors for Hillcrest Children and Family Center, a historic mental health and substance abuse treatment organization serving the D.C. metropolitan area. There, he launched initiatives such as the One Love for a City campaign, which united local businesses, artists, and mental health professionals to address disparities in underserved communities.

A dedicated community advocate, he also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Largo Town Center Association. In this role, he has led efforts to raise awareness around stormwater management and environmental stewardship, contributing to policy conversations that led to the formation of a county task force to study privately held stormwater systems. He also spearheaded the Downtown Largo Festival, blending cultural celebration with environmental education and sustainable practices.

Sustainability & Environmental Education

As a certified Master Gardener, Rande educates residents on the connection between gardening, food systems, and water quality, promoting organic and sustainable practices that benefit both people and the environment. He continues to play an active role in shaping Largo’s future, working alongside developers and community stakeholders to ensure equitable, sustainable growth.

Creative Expression & Advocacy

Beyond his professional and civic work, Rande is also a spoken word artist who uses his voice to elevate conversations around environmental justice, mental health, and economic empowerment.

Mission

Through his leadership, creativity, and commitment to service, he remains focused on one core mission:

Changing Communities by Transforming People

My purpose is serving the under-served community.  There is nothing more fulfilling than to see how my work behind the scenes outwardly impacts lives.
